Dennis L. Algiere
Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer and Director of Community Affairs


Dennis, a resident of Westerly, is responsible for ensuring that Washington Trust complies with federal and state laws as well as the guidelines set by the Bank's regulatory agencies. He also oversees the Bank's security department, purchasing department, buildings and facilities department, and the wealth management compliance department. Dennis joined Washington Trust in April 1995 as compliance officer and most recently served as vice president.

A lifelong Westerly resident, Dennis is an active steward in many community and civic organizations and currently serves as the minority leader of the Rhode Island Senate. Dennis served on the board of directors for The Westerly Hospital, Westerly Education Endowment Committee, and the Westerly-Pawcatuck Joint Development Task Force. He is an incorporator of the Memorial and Library Association of Westerly. He is a member of the board of directors of The Chorus of Westerly, St. Pius X School, and the Old Town Hall Museum. He serves on the board of advisors for the Literacy Volunteers of America, Washington County Chapter and is a member of the Westerly Lions Club. Dennis is a past chair of the Westerly Division United Way Campaign and past president of Main Street Rhode Island. He also serves as chair of the Westerly Public Library and the Wilcox Park Capital Campaign and its Building Committee. Dennis was a member of President Bush's Advisory Committee on the Arts at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Dennis received his bachelor's of arts degree from Providence College and his master's degree from Northeastern University. He is also a graduate of Southern New England School of Law and the American Bankers Association National Compliance School. He is a former member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governor's Consumer Advisory Council. He is a member of the RI Bankers Association Community Reinvestment Committee, and also serves on the American Bankers Association's Compliance Executive Committee, Money Laundering Task Force and Fraud Prevention Oversight Council. He also served as co-chair of the ABA's Compliance Conference Committee.
