'Washington Trust Day' at URI Women's Basketball on February 27

Westerly, Rhode Island... The University of Rhode Island will be celebrating 30 years of women's basketball and hosting 'Washington Trust Day' at the women's basketball game on Sunday, February 27, 2005. The Rams host Massachusetts at 2:00 p.m. in the Ryan Center on the URI Kingston campus. It is the last home game of the season and will be broadcast live on Cox 3.

Vouchers for up to four (4) free tickets for this game are available at all Washington Trust branches. Vouchers can be redeemed at the Ryan Center box office on the day of the game. The first 250 kids to arrive at the game will receive a free URI sports bottle compliments of Washington Trust.

A celebration of 30 years of URI women's basketball will include recognizing the many accomplishments of women's basketball at URI, the advancements of women in sports over the past 30 years and URI faculty and staff who have been with the University for 30 or more years.

A little known fact is that the first basketball team at URI was formed by women, in 1902. It wasn't until 1975 that the women's team actually became a varsity sport. A few years following that, women began receiving offers for full scholarships for playing basketball at URI.
