January 30, 2006 (Westerly, RI) . . . The spring session of the Stock Market Game, sponsored by Washington Trust's Wealth Management group, will begin February 6. Washington Trust partnered with the Providence Journal to sponsor the Game for the 2005 - 2006 school year.
The Stock Market Game is an online educational experience that takes place in schools throughout the country in grades four through college. Students learn about investing through reading their local newspaper (the Providence Journal for Rhode Island students), investing a simulated $100,000 in the stock market and tracking their trades online for a 10-week period.
Members of the Washington Trust Wealth Management staff will visit several of the participating classrooms to lend their expertise about investing and the financial markets. The students are also able to e-mail questions to the Wealth Management staff.
"The Stock Market Game was very popular with both the students and our Wealth Management employees last fall. Our wealth management professionals used their skills and expertise to teach students about the world of investing. It was a very positive and rewarding experience for them," said John C. Warren, Chairman and CEO of Washington Trust.
A total of 823 students participated in the Game last fall, from
October 3 through December 9, 2005, and Washington Trust Wealth
Management employees spoke to more than 350 of them about investing
and the markets.
