Washington Trust Employees to Wear Red for American Heart Association

February 2, 2006 (Westerly, RI) . . . Washington Trust will participate in the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement during the month of February by accepting donations in support of the AHA's work to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease. Anyone who makes a $5 donation at any of the 16 Washington Trust branch offices (see locations below) will receive a Red Dress Pin to wear in support of the AHA's work.

On Friday, February 3, Washington Trust employees will celebrate National Wear Red Day, as part of the Go Red for Women movement, by donating $5, wearing red and receiving a Red Dress Pin to wear in support of the AHA's work.

Go Red For Women is a nationwide call to action for women to be proactive in taking care of their own health. Since heart disease is the number one cause of death, and stroke is the number three cause of death for women over the age of 25, this movement is a vital one.

Washington Trust has been a long-time supporter of the AHA, participating in the American Heart Association's Greater Westerly Heart Walk for more than eleven years. In 2005 alone Washington Trust's team raised more than $17,000, including the funds donated from the public and its employees during the AHA's 2005 Go Red for Women Movement and Wear Red Day.

In 2005 Washington Trust employees Lina Carreiro, E-Commerce assistant, and Frank Cofone, assistant vice president, real estate assets officer, were honored as recipients of the American Heart Association's Volunteer of the Year Award. Carreiro and Cofone have served as team captains for the Walk for 8 years. In this capacity they raise funds themselves as well as recruiting other employees to raise funds and participate in the Walk. With their efforts and leadership, the Washington Trust Team has been number one for the amount of funds raised for the Westerly Heart Walk for the last five years.
