Washington Trust Provides $125,000 to Westerly Public Library

September 18, 2006 (Westerly, RI) . . . The Washington Trust Company has pledged $125,000 to the Westerly Public Library in support of their $7 million capital campaign. The campaign's goals are to renovate the library and make improvements to Wilcox Park. The Library & Park Campaign will continue through June of 2007. The Park renovations have begun and the Library renovations will being in the spring of 2007.

"The Library is a vital community resource, and the Park is an integral part of our community's past, present and future," said John C. Warren, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Washington Trust.

"Washington Trust sets the bar for other businesses to donate," said Kathryn Taylor, executive director of the Memorial and Library Association of Westerly, a private not-for-profit organization that owns the Westerly Library and Wilcox Park. "For Washington Trust to give right at the beginning of the campaign, it helps us out in the long term and short term, by helping us to encourage other businesses to match Washington Trust."

"The park and library are very important to the quality of life in our town," said Dennis L. Algiere, a senior vice president for Washington Trust and chairman of the Library & Park Campaign. "And we're thrilled with the Bank's donation."

Taylor, executive director of the Memorial and Library Association of Westerly accept $125,000 check from John C. Warren, chairman and chief executive officer of The Washington Trust Company and Dennis L. Algiere, senior vice president for Washington Trust and chairman of the Library & Park Campaign.
