September 18, 2006 (Westerly, RI) . . . The Washington Trust Company donated 25 used computers to Westerly Innovations Network (WIN). In addition, the Bank provided $500 in funding for replacement parts necessary to refurbish the computers to make them useable for the students who will ultimately receive them.
"The computers are very high quality and uniform, so they will be easy to refurbish," said Jason Lin, coordinator of the WIN team. "We will be able to fulfill the needs of many students from grade school to high school."
The WIN team is comprised of local students of all ages who learn to refurbish used computers and install updated software. The computers are then given to students in need. The goal is for every single student in Westerly to have access to a computer at home.
"Washington Trust is pleased to support the efforts of the
WIN team," said Barbara Perino, senior vice president, operations
and technology. "The donation benefits the students who receive
the refurbished computers as well as the WIN team members by providing
machines on which to learn. It's good to see the life of these machines
extended rather than recycled."
