October 5, 2006 (Westerly, RI) . . . The Washington Trust Company is collecting used cell phones during the month of October at all branch locations to support Domestic Violence Awareness Month. All cell phones will be reprogrammed and given to abuse victims for emergency 911 calls, through the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County.
"We're happy to help support Domestic Violence Awareness Month," said Elizabeth B. Eckel, senior vice president of marketing of Washington Trust and board member of the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County. "It's a small way to support an important issue facing our society. Washington Trust has the resources through our branch offices to reach a large number of citizens who can donate used cell phones."
"By donating cell phones, members of the community can help victims of domestic violence," offered Mary Roda, executive director of the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County. "And phones that can't be utilized may help us raise funds through a recycle program."
