Washington Trust To Collect Cell Phones 
For Domestic Violence Awareness Month

September 28, 2007 (Westerly, RI). . . The Washington Trust Company is collecting used cell phones during the month of October at all branch locations to support Domestic Violence Awareness Month. All cell phones will be reprogrammed and given to clients for emergency 911 calls, through the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County.

“Domestic Violence continues to be a critical issue in our society, despite increased awareness, prevention, and education progress,” said Elizabeth B. Eckel, senior vice president of marketing of Washington Trust and board member of the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County. “The cell phone drive is an easy way for people to help these efforts. Washington Trust has 17 branch offices and can reach a large number of citizens who can donate used cell phones.”

This year, the campaign is “Domestic Violence Isn’t Just Physical.” Abuse may be verbal, emotional, financial, sexual and may take many other forms. “Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a chance to honor victims, raise awareness and let abuse victims know that they are not alone,” explained Mary Roda, Executive Director of the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County. “Partners like Washington Trust are a big help in raising awareness and funds, especially with the October cell phone drive.”
