Washington Trust Receives Recognition From The IRS

May 9, 2008 (Westerly, Rhode Island). . .The Washington Trust Company was recognized by the Internal Revenue Service for participating in the 2008 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs, at a recent event at Casey Family Services in Providence.

The VITA Program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Certified volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. The Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) Program provides free tax help to people age 60 and older. Trained volunteers from non-profit organizations provide free tax counseling and basic income tax return preparation for senior citizens.

Washington Trust was recognized for making available to these tax return filers, a no fee, no minimum balance savings account, and for making their deposits accessible at no cost at Washington Trust ATM's located in Rite-Aid pharmacies and State office buildings.
