Washington Trust's Charitable Contributions Top $400,000

February 6, 2009 (Westerly, RI). . .Washington Trust Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ Global Select; symbol: WASH), recently announced $400,000 in contributions to local nonprofit organizations through Washington Trust’s Charitable Foundation.

John C. Warren, Washington Trust chairman and CEO remarked, “Our Charitable Foundation strives to help these organizations provide the necessities for everyday living.”

“We truly believe in the mission of these agencies and recognize the challenges they are facing this year,” said Dennis L. Algiere, Washington Trust senior vice president, chief compliance officer, and director of community affairs. “Now more than ever they need the community’s assistance.”

One of the recipients was Meeting Street, a child development and educational facility, serving children with various needs at their state-of-the-art campus in Providence, R.I. John M. Kelly, president and CEO of Meeting Street added, “At Meeting Street, we are so thankful for the support of Washington Trust. From the leadership of John Warren and Jack Treanor, who is the Chairman of Meeting Street’s Board of Trustees, to the hundreds of employees from Washington Trust who volunteer their time and support our work, we are grateful for all that they do for Meeting Street and for the more than 3,000 children that we help every year.”
