March 13, 2009 (Westerly, RI). . .Washington Trust presented awards to 54 of its employees to recognize them for their community service during the Bank’s recent annual Employee Fest at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick.
In 2003, President George W. Bush created the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation to find ways to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making in our Nation. The Presidential Volunteer Service Award is given as a way to thank and honor Americans who by their demonstrated commitment and example inspire others to engage in volunteer service. Presidential Volunteer Service Awards were given to 4 employees at the Silver level for serving 250 – 499 hours of community service, and 47 employees were awarded the Bronze level for serving 100 – 249 hours of community service, during 2008.

The Bank also presented the Washington Trust Community Service Award, Amy L. Panciera, of Westerly, R.I. This award recognizes an employee who has made a significant contribution to the community by volunteering their time and effort. Ms. Panciera volunteered for more than 15 events in 2008, often committing entire weekends to community service. A donation of $500 in Panciera’s name was made to the The Self Help for Hard of Hearing People Inc. or “shhh.org”.
The Spirit of Washington Trust was presented to Laureen E. Tracy-Dufficy, of Wakefield, R.I. This award honors employees who embrace the core values of the Bank; honesty, integrity and community, and tries to find a win/win solution in every situation. A $250 donation in her name will be made to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank and $250 to Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island.
A special Spirit of Washington Trust Award was presented to Vernon F. Bliven, of Pawcatuck, Conn. During his 37 year career with Washington Trust, Mr. Bliven has guided employees professionally as well as personally. He is a strong ambassador of the Bank in the community and always speaks with pride of the Bank and its employees. A $500 donation in his name will be given to United Way of Rhode Island, with whom he has worked 37 campaigns.
