Washington Trust Donates $5,000 to Benefit Haiti Earthquake Victims

Bank Establishes Fund to Collect Donations

Westerly, Rhode Island... Washington Trust has established a special account with the Rhode Island Chapter of the American Red Cross and made a $5,000 charitable contribution to assist the victims of the Haiti earthquake through the American Red Cross's International Fund. The Bank is also collecting cash contributions for the Fund from its employees, customers and the local community at each of the Bank's eighteen branch offices in Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut. Washington Trust employees will also hold a special "Dress Down Day" to benefit the Fund next Friday, January 22nd at all offices.

"Washington Trust, its employees and customers have all been deeply affected by the destruction and devastation this natural disaster has caused the people of Haiti," stated John C. Warren, Washington Trust Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "We hope that by partnering with the Red Cross, we can help bring relief to the Haitian victims and their families."

"We have a sizeable Haitian population here in Rhode Island, so it is wonderful for a local bank like Washington Trust to take a leadership role in not only contributing, but also accepting donations to help our efforts," said Bruce Rutter, CEO of the American Red Cross, Rhode Island Chapter.

Contributions can be made at any of Washington Trust's eighteen branches throughout Rhode Island and Connecticut. Checks should be made payable to "American Red Cross - Rhode Island Chapter," with a memo notation to "International Fund - Haiti."
