Washington Trust Donates to Rhode Island Philharmonic

Bank Celebrates New East Providence Office with Gift to Local Music Students

Westerly, Rhode Island... Washington Trust, the largest bank headquartered in Rhode Island, recently presented the Rhode Island Philharmonic with donation of $1,000 to help provide scholarships and financial aid for Music School students. The check was presented to a group of Music School students who recently performed for Washington Trust bank officials, community members and guests as the Bank celebrated its new branch office at 587 Taunton Avenue in East Providence.

"Washington Trust is committed to the organizations and activities that make Rhode Island a better place to live and work," said Joseph J. MarcAurele, Washington Trust Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. "The Rhode Island Philharmonic is one of the State’s special places, as it provides opportunities for our youth to explore their talent and enjoy new experiences."

The Rhode Island Philharmonic is widely recognized as one of the premier regional orchestras in the United States, and is the largest fully integrated professional orchestra and music school in the country. The Philharmonic combines exceptional symphonic performances with an emphasis on high quality music education at its Music School. This year, the School will serve approximately 14,500 children, youth and adults with lessons, classes, ensembles and community engagement programs.

"Along with the beauty music brings to each individual, music education engages student creativity and fosters an essential skill needed in the 21st Century workforce," said Annette Mozzoni, Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School Director. "Washington Trusts’ generous gift to our scholarship fund will provide access to high quality music education for low income students who otherwise may not have the opportunity."
