Mark K.W. Gim is President and Chief Operating Officer of The Washington Trust Company, responsible for overseeing the strategic planning process and daily operations of the Company’s key business lines, including the retail banking, mortgage and consumer lending, and wealth management divisions.
Gim joined Washington Trust in September of 1993, most recently serving as Senior Executive Vice President of Wealth Management and Chief Strategy Officer. Through his leadership of Washington Trust Wealth Management, the division saw wealth management assets under administration grow from $4.8 to $6.7 billion between 2013 and 2017. Prior to that, Gim served as Executive Vice President and Treasurer, with responsibility for Washington Trust’s retail banking division.
Gim graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a bachelor's degree in 1987, and a master's degree in 1988 from the London School of Economics in London, England. A Rhode Island resident, he serves as President of the Rhode Island Free Clinic, chair appointed Governor for The Miriam Hospital Foundation, member of the Rhode Island Commodores and past President of the Community College of Rhode Island Charitable Foundation. Gim is also a board member of the Trinity Repertory Company, the Rhode Island Philharmonic and Music School, Rhode Island Public Radio, Providence Athenaeum, and The Wolf School, and serves as a Lecturer on the faculty of Boston University Law School’s Graduate Program in Banking and Financial Law.
