Elizabeth Boyle Eckel

Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing & Corporate Communications Officer

Beth leads Washington Trust’s marketing and corporate communications efforts. She is responsible for developing marketing and brand strategy for Washington Trust and incorporating advertising, market research, digital, and public relations activities to achieve corporate goals. Beth coordinates investor relations activities with the shareholder and investment communities. She oversees the Bank’s community giving and employee volunteerism program.

Beth has more than 30 years of experience in strategic and brand marketing and corporate communications. Her early career in computer sales and product support provided a critical foundation for future success in strategic marketing and communications. Beth began her career at Washington Trust in 1991 and was instrumental in developing strategic programs, products, and initiatives to help the company achieve its goals and become one of the top financial institutions in the Northeast region.

Beth also developed the Bank’s signature Reach for the STARS Employee Volunteerism Program, which received a national Points of Light® Award in 2005. Her team has received numerous awards and she personally has received recognition for her work and most recently received the Leaders & Achievers Award from Providence Business News in 2022.

Beth holds an MBA from the University of Rhode Island and a bachelor’s degree from Boston College. She is a graduate of the American Bankers’ Association Graduate School of Banking and School of Bank Marketing and. She is also an alumna of Leadership Rhode Island.

A Rhode Island resident, Beth is very active in the communities that Washington Trust serves. She currently serves as a Board Member of the Nonviolence Institute and leads their Marketing and Communications Committee. She is also a member of the Cox Charitable Foundation Committee and is on the Advisory Committee of the Domestic Violence Resource Center of South County, having previously served as a board member. She is also a strong advocate and regular supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association of Rhode Island. Beth is an active member of the American Bankers Association’s Bank Marketing Network and the New England Financial Marketing Association, and formerly served on the ABA’s Marketing Advisory Council. She previously served as a Board Member for the RI Chapter of the American Red Cross, and as Board Member and Treasurer of the Ocean Community YMCA’s Swim Team, the Grantmaker’s Council of RI and Westerly Area Youth Lacrosse, the Miriam Hospital Foundation Board of Governors, The Prout School Development Advisory Committee, the Rhode Island Go Red for Women Executive Leadership Team.
