Lytomya Weaver honored by Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Washington Trust
April 03, 2026
The Washington Trust Company is proud to announce that Lytomya Weaver, assistant vice president and mortgage processing manager, has been honored with two significant awards recognizing her dedication to community service and her volunteer work supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
In March, Weaver received Washington Trust’s 2026 Community Service Award, presented annually to an employee who demonstrates exceptional commitment to serving local communities through volunteerism, fundraising, and acts of compassion. Colleagues describe Weaver as “one of the first to arrive at volunteer events, bringing positive energy, encouragement, and a genuine commitment to making every effort count.”
Weaver was also recognized by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Rhode Island/Massachusetts Chapter, at their annual Rhode Island chapter meeting on April 1, with a volunteer award acknowledging her years of donated service. Weaver has supported key fundraising events including the annual Great Strides Walk and Cycle for Life ride. Weaver, who volunteers alongside her husband Scott, helps organize event logistics, set up tents and booths, and support participants throughout the day.

For Weaver, the cause is deeply personal. Her eldest son, Darien Burke, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis as an infant and also battled sickle cell anemia. Born prematurely in 1991, Darien was well known at Hasbro Children’s Hospital for his humor, warmth, and ability to make friends wherever he went. Darien passed away in 2016 at the age of 24.
“I volunteer for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation because it’s near and dear to my heart,” Weaver said. “The treatments have come so far, giving people with Cystic Fibrosis a chance at longer, fuller lives. Supporting that progress means everything to me.”
Weaver said she was shocked and surprised to receive the recognition. “I didn’t expect it at all. I’m quiet and shy, and I haven’t mentioned the awards to many people. But I’m embracing it — and accepting them on behalf of Darien.”
In addition to her work with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Weaver donates countless nights and weekends volunteering with organizations such as Juneteenth RI, Crossroads Rhode Island, the United Way of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Academic Decathlon, and Pretty Cares Inc. in Woonsocket, where she helps distribute meals, clothing and supplies to the unhoused community. She also assists a 98‑year‑old neighbor with daily needs.
“Life is hard — if I can put a smile on someone’s face or make them feel cared for and loved, that’s my motivation,” Weaver said.
“Lytomya’s strength is remarkable — not only in the challenges she has faced, but in the compassion and energy she brings to lifting others up,” said Washington Trust Chairman and CEO Ned Handy. “Lytomya’s leadership and service inspire fellow employees across the organization to get involved and give back. I commend her for embodying the Bank’s spirit of community wherever she goes.”
