Washington Trust delivers $75,000 to nonprofit partners chosen by new account holders
January 16, 2026
WESTERLY, R.I. – Washington Trust is donating $75,000 to local nonprofit housing, food and social service organizations selected by the Bank’s customers, as part of the Bank’s “Checking + $225” community checking campaign. The campaign, which celebrated Washington Trust’s 225th birthday in 2025, provided $200 to each new customer who opened a checking account between May and November 2025—and $25 to a charitable organization. Customers chose one of 12 nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut to receive the $25 donation from Washington Trust:

| Rhode Island | Connecticut | Massachusetts |
Amos House FLY Initiative RI Food Bank RI Free Clinic South County Habitat for Humanity Tides Family Services WARM Center | CT Foodshare Eastern Connecticut Housing Opportunities PNC | Greater Boston Food Bank NeighborWorks Housing Solutions |
The “Checking + 225” campaign was designed to give back to the communities the bank has proudly served for generations, while directly supporting Washington Trust’s charitable priorities of fighting food insecurity, supporting basic needs, and providing safe and secure housing.
“I feel better knowing I may have made a difference in someone's life through my donation to them,” said Chepachet resident Diane, who chose Amos House to receive her $25 donation from the Bank.
Robert and Mimi in Warwick selected Tides Family Services to receive the $25 donation from Washington Trust, as “a memorial to our late good friend, Brother Timothy Balfe, and for the education programs provided by Tides Schools.”
Westerly resident Vincie, a single mother of two children, picked the WARM Center as her charity of choice because “they’ve helped my family when we were struggling.”
To ensure meaningful impact, Washington Trust increased its per customer contribution so that each nonprofit received a minimum of $1,000.
“Thank you for the many ways Washington Trust shows up for Rhode Island,” said Rhode Island Free Clinic CEO Jessica Eagles. “This support will make a real difference for the uninsured patients we serve, and it means a great deal to us that it reflects both customer engagement and Washington Trust’s deep commitment to the community. It’s truly heartening to see how strongly your customers believe in the mission of the Free Clinic.”
“For 225 years, Washington Trust has been more than a bank—we’ve been a trusted partner in strengthening our communities,” said Washington Trust Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ned Handy. “This campaign reflects our commitment to making a positive impact where our customers live and work, and we’re proud to support organizations that share our mission of helping people thrive.”
