Bank assembles and donates ‘welcome home kits’ for third year in a row
Washington Trust employees recently came together to assemble and donate Welcome Home Kits for individuals who moved into Crossroads Rhode Island’s new permanent affordable apartments at 99 Stewart Street in Providence. The kits, which include essential household and personal care items, are designed to help individuals and families feel supported as they settle into their new homes.
Washington Trust employees donated over $2,700 worth of supplies and more than 80 volunteers across the company assembled the items into 24 Welcome Home Kits—baskets with everyday necessities such as toiletries, cleaning supplies, and paper products that help make a new residence feel like home. Since 2024, Washington Trust has donated 84 Welcome Home Kits to Crossroads RI, which are gifted to clients when they move into permanent housing.
Crossroads Rhode Island provides housing and support services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness across the state. The Welcome Home Kits initiative is part of Washington Trust’s broader, ongoing support of the organization’s mission to address homelessness through both direct service and long‑term housing solutions. In 2023, Washington Trust pledged $50,000 to Crossroads’ ‘Roads to Home’ capital campaign to help build more than 300 units of affordable permanent supportive housing in Providence, including new developments at 99 Stewart Street and 371 Pine Street, and the renovation of 160 Broad Street.
“Access to safe and affordable housing is a critical issue facing our communities, and Washington Trust remains deeply committed to supporting organizations that help individuals and families achieve housing stability,” said Washington Trust Chairman and CEO Ned Handy. “Our employees are passionate about giving back, and this hands‑on effort reflects their genuine care for the people and communities we serve. We are proud to stand alongside Crossroads Rhode Island as they work to bring stability, dignity, and opportunity to individuals experiencing homelessness.”
