October 14, 2025

This fall, Washington Trust hosted once again stepped up to protect people from identity theft, one shred at a time, by holding free Community Shred Days at several branch locations. These events offered a safe, secure way to dispose of sensitive documents—while also supporting local food pantries.

Washington Trust employees ran the events at branches in Olneyville and Westerly on Saturday, September 27th, and in Narragansett, Richmond and Warwick on Saturday, October 4th.  Along with their personal documents for shredding, attendees also dropped off non-perishable food items for donation to a local food pantry. In total, participants donated more than 900 pounds of food that Washington Trust later delivered to five local non-profit organizations fighting hunger: Neighbors Helping Neighbors (Warwick), New Hope Chapel (Richmond), Jonnycake Food Pantry (South Kingstown), Safe Futures (New London), and St. Patrick’s Church Food Pantry (Providence).

The next Community Shred Days event will be held in Spring 2026.
