Washington Trust named one of Rhode Island's healthiest employers for sixth year in a row
September 08, 2026
The Washington Trust Company has been named one of Rhode Island's healthiest employers by Providence Business News for the sixth consecutive year. Washington Trust was among 27 organizations through the publication’s 2026 Healthiest Employers of Rhode Island Awards program and was recognized during an awards ceremony at the Providence Marriott Downtown on Sept. 3, 2026.

Now in its 15th year, the Healthiest Employers of Rhode Island program recognizes organizations that are committed to employee well-being through workplace programs that support physical, financial and mental health. Washington Trust was recognized in the category for organizations with 500 to 1,499 employees. Honorees were evaluated by Healthiest Employers Inc. based on their responses to questions about the effectiveness of their wellness initiatives and what makes those programs stand out.

At Washington Trust, employee wellness is supported through a variety of programs and resources designed to meet employees' individual needs. The Bank offers wellness reimbursements, coaching opportunities, preventive care incentives and educational resources that help employees improve and maintain their overall well-being. The wellness program is designed to provide flexible options that employees can access when they are most meaningful and beneficial to them.
“Our wellness program is effective because it’s woven into the fabric of our culture, which is rooted in a strong sense of community across the organization,” said Kristen DiSanto, senior executive vice president and chief human resources officer. “It goes beyond traditional offerings to support connection, reduce stress, and encourage healthy habits—while also providing meaningful educational opportunities on topics that matter to our employees and their families—in ways that feel relevant and accessible, and reflect the pride employees take in carrying forward our longstanding commitment to the people and places we serve.”
Washington Trust continually seeks new ways to foster employee engagement and connection. One recent example is A Taste of Washington Trust, a virtual recipe book developed by the Bank's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Culture Committee during Diversity Month. The project featured employee-submitted recipes and personal stories reflecting colleagues' cultures, family traditions and life experiences, creating opportunities for employees to learn from one another and celebrate the diversity that strengthens the organization.
