Washington Trust Receives Top Workplace Wellness Award for Fourth Consecutive Year

Westerly, RI –The Washington Trust Company was honored with a 2020 Worksite Health Award in the ‘Exemplary’ category by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.
The annual award program recognizes Rhode Island employers’ efforts to advance employee wellness and build a healthier Rhode Island. The awards celebrate businesses for making the effort to put wellness into practice in their workplace by providing programs and information that support good health and demonstrate a commitment to employees’ overall wellbeing. Awards are bestowed in four levels: Achievement, Outstanding, Superior and Exemplary.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Worksite Wellness Awards especially considered how companies went above and beyond to support their employees throughout the year.
“We believe that it is important to invest in the health and wellness of our workforce and have had a robust wellness program for many years,” said Kristen DiSanto, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. “When the COVID-19 pandemic first began, we realized that stress, isolation and inactivity could have a negative impact on our employee’s well-being. In response, we quickly stepped up our wellness program introducing weekly challenges focused on keeping our team moving, reducing stress and adopting healthy quarantine habits. These fun activities also helped keep our employees connected as they shared photos and challenged each other. Both our virtual and onsite employees were very engaged and approached each new challenge with lots of enthusiasm.”
Washington Trust offers a robust suite of programs to support employee wellness, including rewards and reimbursement incentives, discount programs, virtual and in-person webinars and events, screening programs and more. Washington Trust also works with local technology company, Virgin Pulse, to provide employees with a comprehensive online tool that helps to cultivate and support good lifestyle habits.
In honor of the 2020 award winners, a $10,000 donation was made by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island to the United Way of Rhode Island.
